Government order to curb illegal downloading…

A government order would be issued in January to curb illegal downloading of films and music from pirate websites.

The Irish Government has decided to take steps to plug a gap in the laws that allows users of the internet to have access to websites that have pirated films and music. A friend of mine, working with the Appco Group, recently told me that as per official figures, the CD sales in the Irish Republic has gone down considerably in the last few years. If it was €146 million in 2006, the last year it was just €56 million. Grave issue indeed! Continue reading

Vets may strike, meat supply could be affected

In the run up to Christmas, this is no good news at all. Vets are likely to strike and this may affect the supply of beef, lamb and pork.

“Yeah, definitely not good news at Christmas time”, exclaimed my friend who was getting ready to do a market review for his client company. “Enza Marketing Review- that’s what I explore today”- he said as I looked at his computer monitor; and then he was back to talking about the strike by the vets. Gifts that work wonders…always!

A Personal post on gifts…

Choosing gifts seem easy, but it isn’t so. Try it for someone you love and you’ll understand how tough it is…

People gift cards, roses and souvenirs and also things like gift vouchers, books, toys, chocolates, pens and watches. There are others who think of things more expensive- cars, motor-cycles, mobile phones, laptop computers, tour-packages etc. I didn’t have an answer when my friend quizzed me with, “Hey, which is the best gift in the world?”. Under-age sex, drink, drugs rampant in Ireland…

The findings of two new UNICEF Ireland reports are quite disturbing as regards adolescents in Ireland…

The reports reveal that under-age sex, drink and drugs have become rampant in the country in recent years. Well you might be wondering why I am not writing about the ISSP (International Symposium on Solubility Phenomena and Related Equilibrium Processes) or Appco Group or the Singapore based Redwoods Advance for which I write lots of stuff. No, let’s discuss this as this is something important; this affects lives in a more intimate manner… Continue reading

Students protest in Dublin

The streets of Dublin went abuzz as up to 20,000 students marched protesting against a proposal to reintroduce student fees. This was the biggest demonstration that happened in Ireland in the last one year. The protest was organised by the Union of Students in Ireland.

The protests happened as school leavers would be left with no option but to emigrate or go on the dole if student fees were reintroduced for third-level or higher education. Of course companies like Clover Advertising do help students all over the UK with sponsorship; but with Ireland where the student fees were abolished at the start of the country’s 15-year economic boom in 1996, such sponsorship was not at all needed. The fees were abolished in a bid to increase the number of people from lower socio-economic backgrounds attending college.

Advertising on a party bus!

“Advertising on a party bus; well, how does that sound?” I asked Jane, my best friend. Jane had a sharp eye for everything and was one of the keenest observers I had known in my lifetime.  She always sought to analyse the pros and cons of everything that was happening around her and had a thorough knowledge about the best marketing tactics that would make it straight to the hearts of customers. That’s the reason I gave a huge regard to her opinion when I was planning to start a party-bus service. I personally thought it was a great idea to have few businesses pay me to have their logo in my bus or rather even a complete wrap up but I valued Jane’s opinion in this matter a lot.

And I knew, by the fact that Jane is working with Oracle Advertising, a  reputed marketing company run by Ali Mir, that she would help me take the right decision. And she did indeed come up with an opinion which I felt did make a lot of sense. “Running a successful party bus business by itself is a difficult thing. Selling advertising is a totally different business. You can get that straight once you get the party bus part down first” she said. Continue reading
