Chocolaty News…

What would you do if you run a chocolate company and celebrate its anniversary? Well, think it out and plan it for the next anniversary…

It was on email that I shared this news with my Singaporean friend working with Sirius Marketing. I could sense from his reply mail that he really found it difficult to stop his mouth from watering.

Well, Thorntons, the famous chocolate making company celebrated its 100th anniversary by making a giant chocolate, the world’s largest chocolate bar. The giant slab of milk chocolate weighed almost six tonnes (5,792.5kg) and measured 13 ft (4m) square. It was unveiled last week at Thorntons headquarters in Alfreton, Derbyshire, England after prolonged top-secret cooking.

The idea to make the giant chocolate bar came from Paul Bell, a stock controller working in  Thorntons’ toffee department. It was not an easy task as over 50 people had to be involved in the pouring of the chocolate into the mould and pouring itself took 10 hours. It needed three full days for the chocolate to cool off.

Don’t fret your brain thinking how it would be used. The company planned that well in advance- piecing it with axes and giving it to Thorntons staff and customers and for helping raise money for charities.
